THE SIERRA LEONE PEACE DIAMOND WAS SOLD ON DECEMBER 4, 2017 TO THE HOUSE OF GRAFF FOR $6,536,360.
The Peace Diamond was sold to House of Graff on Dec 4, 2017 for $6,536,360. “The sale of the Sierra Leone Peace Diamond represents a new future for the people of Sierra Leone. We anticipate a virtuous cycle of development as taxes from the sale provide tangible benefit to the artisanal sector. This will encourage more diggers to sell their diamonds through legitimate channels increasing tax revenue and vital infrastructure development. I congratulate Laurence Graff for buying this special diamond and encourage the Graff team to promote the idea of the Peace Diamond as a diamond that makes the world a better place.” Said Martin Rapaport

The Peace Diamond is a 709 carat rough diamond discovered by a team of five artisanal diggers near the village of Koryardu in Sierra Leone on March 13, 2017. It is the world’s 14th largest diamond measuring approximately 2.5 inches wide and 1 inch deep.
Pastor Emanuel Momoh, the manager and financial supporter of the digger team is the legal owner of the diamond and a leader in the village and community where the diamond was found. In spite of offers to smuggle the diamond, he insisted that the diamond be sold through official government channels so that the financial benefits of this diamond would be properly shared with his village, district and the people of Sierra Leone.
The Peace Diamond is a 709.48 carat rough diamond discovered on March 13, 2017 by impoverished artisanal diggers in Koryardu, Sierra Leone. It is the 14th largest diamond ever found. At the request of the Sierra Leone government, the Rapaport Group is marketing and auctioning the diamond in New York on Dec 4, 2017 free of charge. Koryardu is one of the poorest places on earth. Sometimes there is insufficient food. There is no infrastructure. No clean water, electricity, medical care or school. No bridges or roads. No jobs. But Koryardu has good, honest people.
